Nostalgic Train Ride

A girl sits alone on a moving train. Before her rests a ring box—what happened to the person sitting with her?

This scene was my first demo reel poject that I worked on at Gnomon. I wanted to create a scene that involves the movement of light. As it was being created more story telling was involved like why is the girl by herself, why is there a ring box and where is she going.

This was a tough project to complete due to having to render a scene with motion and glass, but from it I learned a lot of rendering and comping techniques.

Breakdown

Software Used:

Maya, XGen, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Substance Sampler, Marvelous Designer, Mari, Vray, Nuke, Adobe Premiere

Program Files

I am responsible for all aspects, except for Megascan flowers and Polyhaven Hdri

The Beginning

The inside of the train is based off of the Al Andalus dining cart.

I chose this train to be the inspiration because I liked the color pallete and the more vintage feel the decor has.

Train References

Originally this project was made when I was first learning Unreal and creating a modular environment.

I later decided to use Maya and Vray for the final.

Middle

Set Up

To add more story to the train a person was added! I had some ideas to either add a guy reading a newspaper or add a girl staring out the window.

These images also show some of my first compsitions that I wanted to do.

Train Model

Like I said up above, this train was made to be modular and can be duplicated multiple times to however long I wanted the dining cart to be.

The Girl

The Girl used in this scene was a character I sculpted and textured from another project using Zbrush and Mari. I thought that her elegant look would suit the style of the train. She is the first human character that I textured.
